Stage 2 of the Tour de France 2025: double coup for Mathieu Van der Poel in Boulogne-sur-Mer!

The Hauts-de-France region once again vibrated to the rhythm of the Tour de France, with a spectacular finish in Boulogne-sur-Mer. And the public were not disappointed: at the end of a tense and selective final, it was Dutchman Mathieu Van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck) who took the win, pulling off a real double coup.

Not only did he win this second stage, he also took the overall leader's Yellow Jersey, and is now ahead of Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) and Jonas Vingegaard (Visma - Lease a bike) in the overall standings ahead of the 3ᵉ stage between Valenciennes and Dunkirk (178 km).

A feat for the puncheur

This feat is all the more remarkable in that Mathieu Van der Poel beat the last two Tour winners, Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard, in a small group sprint at the top of the final climb. Having already won a stage at the Tour in 2021, the Dutch puncheur once again confirms that he is one of the most explosive riders in the peloton.

Setting off from Lauwin-Planque, this stage crossed several emblematic territories of the Hauts-de-France region before finishing in apotheosis on the Côte d'Opale. With a more rugged course in the second half, it offered a breathtaking spectacle and confirmed the decisive nature of this week's Tour of Northern France.
