Stage 3 of the Tour de France 2025: Tim Merlier wins the sprint in Dunkirk

But the day was also marked by a series of crashes that disrupted the finish. A first collective crash with 3 km to go trapped several riders, including Remco Evenepoel and Jordi Meeus. Another crash in the final kilometer put three sprinters out of the race (Bol, Renard and Penhoët). Above all, the intermediate sprint had already been the scene of a major accident with the retirement of Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck), who was unintentionally hit by Brian Coquard. The winner of the first stage and wearer of the green jersey is therefore leaving this Tour 2025 prematurely.

Tim Merlier won the third stage of the Tour de France in a sprint on Monday, a stage marked by three major crashes, including the retirement of the green jersey, in front of a very large crowd in Dunkirk.

A stage for sprinters

For 32-year-old Tim Merlier, this victory in Dunkirk is the second of his Tour de France career, following his 2021 victory in Pontivy. It brings his total number of professional victories to 61.

In the overall classification, no change: Mathieu Van der Poel retains the yellow jersey.
