Lille will host the Grand Départ in 2025 for the third time in its history, on July 5, 2025.

The last time the Capital of Flanders hosted a Tour de France stage start, it was in 2022 with the 5th stage between Lille Métropole and Arenberg and its cobbled sectors. At the start in Lille, Wout Van Aert (Jumbo-Visma) wore the Yellow Jersey.

For 2025, the Grand Départ will be in Lille, with a stage arriving with a final sprint on the Esplanade Façade after a start at the same location. The region will be in the spotlight, with no less than three stages taking place and a departure from Amiens to Rouen.

The riders will climb the Monts des Flandres and head towards Pas-de-Calais. There will be no cobbled sections on the program, but the riders will discover other difficulties between the mountains and the wind to make the first selections.

Stage schedule :

  • July 5: Lille Métropole > Lille Métropole: 185 km, finish on boulevard Vauban
  • July 6: Lauwin-Planque > Boulogne-sur-Mer
  • July 7: Valenciennes > Dunkirk
  • July 8: Amiens > Rouen

Lille, a 3rd great departure

For the third time, Lille will host a major start of the Grande Boucle. In 1960, the Lille-Brussels stage was won by Belgian Julien Schepens. In 1994, in front of over a million spectators, Britain's Christopher Boardman won the prologue over a distance of 7.2 kilometers. The start was from the Grand'Place. Boardman again won a prologue in Dublin during the 1998 Tour, with an average speed of 54.193 km/h, the second-best performance of all time at the time, behind his 1994 feat.
